You may have one animal, a spouse, and dependents live with you.
 
An RD's job varies significantly depending on block dynamics and the flow of the year. An RD can expect a mixture of meetings to include one-on-one, student follow-up, student staff, department, and campus meetings, in addition, you will adjudicate conduct sessions and manage various administrative responsibilities.
 
Staff are encouraged to be intentional in their block's community through formal and informal venues. It is what you make it, and we welcome the various styles of engagement that our RDs bring to the communities.
 
RDs can advise the following groups: Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), Advocates for Social Justice (A4SJ), Social Justice Peer Educators (SJPE), Student Ministers(SM), LEADs mentees (underrepresented students), and other various opportunities on the campus level as desired. RDs also indirectly advise their block councils.
 
Conduct is a centralized process through the Office of Community Standards. RDs often meet with students for cases that occur within their own communities. There are opportunities for higher level conduct work as desired, with approval. RDs hold up to five hours a week on their calendar for conduct meetings.
 

Yes, RDs often serve on one-to-three committees at any given time throughout the year.  All RDs will chair committees during their tenure in the department.  The current committees in our department are:

RDs engage with faculty and other campus partners for work in Living Learning Communities (LLC), First Year Experience (FYE), and Second Year Experience (SYE).  We also have some live in faculty members and chaplains in residence.  RDs engage regularly with campus partners for various collaborative efforts.
 
We feel like this is a strength of our department. We get ideas and take into consideration information from all professional and student staff members regardless of title.
 
Through a three to four week process, there will be structured one-on-one and group trainings paired with intentional team bonding to set the RD staff up for success.
 
RDs are housed in one or two bedroom furnished apartment. The majority have in-unit washer and dryer.
 
There are not assigned spots for in hall staff. However, upon purchase of a parking pass, RDs are permitted to park nearly everywhere on-campus. Parking is typically easy to find.
 
Gonzaga will pay for flight, baggage, lodging, and food while interviewing. The only circumstances in which a candidate would repay expenses are if they withdraw from the process after coming on-campus or they are offered a position and decline. Gonzaga loves bringing candidates to show off Zag Nation.
 
Up to $500 in moving expenses will be reimbursed.
 
Blocks are groups of one to six residence halls varying from 320 to 620 residents. The buildings are corridor, suite-style, apartment style, and some off-campus GU owned apartments and houses. The residences were built from the 1920s through the 2000s.
 
An RD will co-supervise with one-to-two Assistant Residence Director(s) - senior level undergraduate students - and possibly one Graduate Residence Director. Together they supervise eight to fifteen Resident Assistants and work in an advisory capacity for Student Ministers, Social Justice Peer Educators, and RHA executives who advise the block councils.
 
We are a values-based institution, and our mission guides our work. We exist in the Jesuit tradition, which tends to be on the liberal side of Catholic values. However, prayers may be said prior to meetings, but staff are not required to actively engage.
 
We welcome candidates regardless of faith and spiritual identities. Furthermore, no statement of faith is required nor are students and staff required to attend mass or other Catholic practices.
 
RDs are permitted to have one pet with approval from the Director of Residence Life. Pet owners are required to have appropriate documentation of the animal, complete training, and pay a cleaning fee at departure of their apartment.
 
A combination of departmental needs and the RD interests are taken into consideration.
 
We take a highly administrative project-based approach to our summer work. Minimal summer housing and conference support occur over the summer, with the exception of one RD who oversees summer student housing.
 
During your timeframe you are encouraged to engage with departmental, campus, and national levels of professional development to obtain higher level of competencies. You will work with your supervisor during your tenure to develop your professional development plan.
 
Yes, we have had international staff members in the past and welcome you to apply.
 
RDs serve on a rotating schedule in which the RDs have the flexibility to serve the entire week at a time or split the week with a peer. On-call response is for all of campus with full coverage through the entire year. If an RD is not on-call, they are not the primary call for their block post regular business hours.
