The Certificate begins with the completion of a '360 review' involving feedback from your supervisor, subordinates, and peers, which will identify your strengths and growth areas. At the same time, you will also complete a thorough personality assessment called the ProfileXTSelect, which helps you understand how you are wired. Later, in December, you will complete an Emotional Intelligence profile that highlights your internal response to stress and how you interpret situations.
In late October, the cohort is brought together to Ross Point Conference Center for an interactive overnight retreat led by Rachelle Strawther, the Director of Leadership Training and Development and Instructor of the Certificate in Foundational Leadership. The focus of the retreat is Leadership & Identity, exploring what it means to shift from a contributor role to a leadership role, and how the 360 & PXT assessments enlighten us in terms of areas of growth.
After the retreat, seven (7) full-day sessions (one day per month from November to May) bring the cohort to Gonzaga and other company locations for highly-interactive discussions led by the Instructor and guest facilitators.Workshop facilitators and speakers are carefully selected from Gonzaga's network of subject matter experts/practitioners. Students will gain public speaking and presenting experience by Class sessions include CEO case studies and practical strategies for immediate application in these focus areas:
- Principles of Leadership
- Emotional Intelligence
- Courageous Communication
- Employee Engagement
- Influencing Others
- Organizational Change Management
- Reflection & Wrap-Up
An Experienced Mentor
Based on your personality, professional development areas, and field, you will be matched with a seasoned and respected leader whose career has included high performance expectations. The expectation is that you meet with your mentor once a month for 1-2 hours from November to May.
After each monthly session, you will be expected to complete a practical assignment that requires you to put your new learning into action at your organization or within a board that you sit on. Assignments will be submitted via Blackboard, and will be graded on a Pass/Fail basis. These assignments may require approximately 2-5 hours of work per month, depending on the assignment and the topic.
Gonzaga University Credit
Completion of the Certificate in Foundational Leadership is on a Pass/Fail basis. In addition to receiveing the Certificate, students will receive six (6) credits of Continuing Education credits, which can count as three (3) credits towards the completion of Gonzaga University's Master's in Organizational Leadership or Master's in Communication & Leadership.
2019-2020 PROGRAM FEE: $6,900.Fee is payable in one lump sum, or in two payments. This includes all assessments, program materials, food, etc. Participants will need to purchase 1-2 books during the program.
Applications for the fall cohort are reviewed beginning July 1st of each year. Applicants are notified of decisions by August 1st.
