Firms need employees who have knowledge of domestic and international economic systems and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Students with an economics concentration gain these skills and occupy a wide range of positions in for-profit and non-profit enterprises as well as in government. The economics concentration is recommended for pre-law students and for students who aim for careers in banking, finance, government, or industry.

Students may also pursue a major or minor in this field within the College of Arts and Sciences; the requirements for the BA and the BS degrees can be found under that College. Students expecting to pursue graduate study in economics are encouraged to earn a BS in Economics.
