About This Event
Gonzaga Law will be hosting a book launch for Professor Jason Gillmer's recent publication , Slavery and Freedom in Texas: Stories from the Courtroom 1821-1871.In his book Professor Gillmer tells the absorbing accounts of five court cases that offer intimate glimpses into Texan society in the time of slavery. Each story unfolds along boundaries—between men and women, slave and free, black and white, rich and poor, old and young—as rigid social orders are upset in ways that drive people to the courtroom.
This event will feature a wine & cheese social hour, followed by a short talk and Q&A with the author. Copies of the book will be on hand for purchase and signing by Professor Gillmer.
