WGST students will demonstrate a knowledge of
- the social construction of gender
- the intersections of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, sexuality and social class
- the concepts of power and privilege and their connections to social inequalities, locally, nationally, and transnationally
- the history of feminist thought and activism
- myriad feminist and gender theories
- the influence of gender, sex and sexuality on key social issues from multiple cultural perspectives
WGST students will demonstrate an ability to
- use gender as an analytical tool to think critically and reflectively
- employ multiple perspectives
- formulate critical questions
- conduct independent research
- evaluate and utilize appropriate evidence
- construct valid arguments
- communicate effectively both in writing and orally
- connect theory and practice
- advocate and act for social change
