WGST students will demonstrate a knowledge of

  • the social construction of gender
  • the intersections of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, sexuality and social class
  • the concepts of power and privilege and their connections to social inequalities, locally, nationally, and transnationally
  • the history of feminist thought and activism
  • myriad feminist and gender theories
  • the influence of gender, sex and sexuality on key social issues from multiple cultural perspectives

WGST students will demonstrate an ability to

  • use gender as an analytical tool to think critically and reflectively
  • employ multiple perspectives
  • formulate critical questions
  • conduct independent research
  • evaluate and utilize appropriate evidence
  • construct valid arguments
  • communicate effectively both in writing and orally
  • connect theory and practice
  • advocate and act for social change
