Student-faculty relationships that blossom outside the classroom help students to be more successful in the classroom. To foster those friendships, Gonzaga's newest residence hall, Coughlin Hall, was created as a living-learning community. Students live alongside a professor in residence. Study hours with the professor are held in the dorm, and students have the opportunity to get to know their professors on a personal level. Assistant Professor Torunn Haaland, a professor in residence who teaches Italian, has gained a new appreciation for students "on their turf." The resulting relationships lead to more effective teaching and learning.
