My education and training are in the area of physical and synthetic organic chemistry. As a research scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland WA, I specialized in organic synthesis of materials for OLEDs, high pressure carbon capture using alkanolamines, and regenerative removal of hydrogen sulfide from syn gas. My appreciation for different aspects of chemistry sometimes leads me on brief tangents, but students seem to enjoy my explosion-based stories from grad school that are connected to the lecture topic. In addition, I am an amateur orchid aficionado, skeet shooter, and recreational road cyclist.
