Connections

Connections

Connections is a one-on-one mentoring program that works with middle school students (grades 7-8) from local Spokane Public Schools. Connections focuses on improving the academic and social success of youth by pairing Gonzaga students in relationships with youth. The program helps youth create a vision for the future and a plan for how that vision can become a reality. Mentors and mentees participate in a variety of academic, recreational, and social activities. All Connections mentors attend weekly programming (either Wednesday OR Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm), visit their mentee once a week at school, and participate in quarterly Saturday activities.

Connections is a year-long commitment for GU students. We strongly encourage mentors to consider committing to the program for longer than one year, but this is not a requirement.

Sparks (High School Mentoring)

Sparks is a team mentoring program that meets at J.R. Rogers High School once per week.  Sparks fosters a safe and supportive environment for youth through positive relationships where strengths are explored.  Youth build social, emotional, and academic skills through inclusive and intentional programming which emphasizes college and career exploration, and leadership development.  Sparks mentors attend programming on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30 pm, and will participate in enrichment activities on campus once per semester.

Sparks is a year-long commitment for GU students. We strongly encourage mentors to consider committing to the program for longer than one year, but this is not a requirement.
