In October of 2010, President Thayne McCulloh signed The American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment and charged the ACSS with the responsibility of implementing the commitment.  The ACUPCC is a national organization which recognizes the effects that universities have on the environment and challenges universities to change their current practices in order to slow the process of global warming and the coinciding ecological harms.  The signing of the pledge by Gonzaga exemplifies Gonzaga's commitment to sustainability and our willingness to change our practices in order to  become a more sustainable institution.

The ACUPCC commits Gonzaga to:

  • Complete an emissions inventory by January 2012.
  • By January 2013, set a target date and interim milestones for becoming climate neutral.
  • Take immediate steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by choosing from a list of concrete actions.
  • Integrate sustainability into the curriculum and make it part of the educational experience.
Gonzaga has recently completed the Greenhouse Gas Report in concordance with its agreement to the American College and University President's Climate Change commitment.
