Professional Memberships

Active members of professionally oriented groups experience a range of group dynamics that support personal and professional development, some of which are similar to the psychosocial and career development functions of traditional mentors.

Specifically, professional organizations provide psychosocial support, inclusion, networking and role modeling to members. Also, professional memberships can provide technical information on how to perform one’s job, normative information on expected behaviors and attitudes in the profession, and referent information about role demands and expectations (Dansky, 1996)
