Day of the Test

You're down to the wire - just a few hours before the test. 

Here are some suggestions to help keep you focused and relaxed (Ellis, 2001):

  • Prepare yourself for the test by arriving early. This gives you time to relax.
  • If you've got enough time before the test begins, do some relaxation exercises to keep calm.
  • If you're nervous, don't talk to your friends about what you've studied--it could make you more nervous or send you into a panic over things you might have forgotten.
  • Once the class begins, keep your attention on any verbal instructions the professor may give while handing out the test.
  • Once the test is in your hands, look through it so there aren't any surprises. Evaluate the importance of each section and decide how much time you want to devote to each.
  • Be sure to read the directions slowly, then re-read them.  This will help you avoid missing points on a problem because you didn't follow directions.  If you find them confusing, ask about them.
  • Finally, jot down memory aids, formulae, equations, facts or other material you know you'll need and might forget in the margins of your test.
