Engineering Management Special Topics

The ENSC 481 Special Topics for Engineering Management continues to be a success. The fall class offered 17 students individual networking opportunities with engineers from industry as well as guest speakers on topics like conflict negotiation, legal issues for engineers and technical writing.  A huge thank you to Geoff Glenn, Disposal Superintendent with the City of Spokane’s Department of Solid Waste Management for leading this innovative class to prepare engineering management students for their professional careers.

The spring 2013 course will be led by Susan Stiger from Bechtel and Beth Hodgson from Spring Environmental.  The topics include:

1. Young Alumni Mentoring Interview Behavior
2. What To Expect Your First Year
3. Business Culture (types of hierarchy, leadership chain, etc.)
4. Interview Behavior
5. Interview Practice (mock interviews)
6. Different Types of Employers (public, private, academia)
7. How to Do Presentations
8. Workplace Etiquette (cultural differences, gender taboos)
9. Legal Issues (intellectual property rights, non-disclosure agreements)
10. Social Media (emails, internet use and presence)
11. Six Sigma, Quality
12. Regulatory Compliance (agencies, standards)
13. Entrepreneurship
