Honors: Students have the opportunity to graduate with honors in the major if they have fulfilled all requirements, achieved a grade point average of at least 3.7 in their sociology courses, and written and defended a senior thesis (SOCI 498). In their fourth year, all Sociology majors must complete SOCI 499 (Sociological Analysis).

School of Education: Students who are planning to obtain certification in elementary or secondary education while majoring in sociology must consul with advisors in the department and in the School of Education in order to insure that both sets of requirements may be met. These students are advised to choose a minor which will broaden and strengthen their knowledge of social science.
