  • Minor in History of Race & Ethnic Communities

Please reference the Undergraduate Catalog for course requirements specific to the History Department major and minors.

In the Fall of 2022, the History Department initiated an exciting new curriculum. It includes an enhanced tiered progression of classes, more flexible course options, and a stronger cohort experience. We still encourage internship projects for all Majors and Minors and cross-list broadly with other programs.

History Majors entering under the 2022-2023 Catalogue must take:

  • History 200, Historical Foundations, a preliminary introduction to the discipline of History that introduces methods used by historians.
  • History 300, Historical Methods, which provides an in-depth discussion of the discipline of History and further develops the skills necessary to contribute to the field.
  • History 400, Senior Thesis/Seminar, the History capstone course, designed as a research seminar culminating in the research and writing of a major thesis project.

The History Classes Support the University Core:

The History Department offers a diverse array of courses that carry the Core Global Studies, Writing Enriched, and Social Justice Designations. We also teach distinctive new University Core History courses, such as:

  • The Ancient World
  • Asian American and Pacific Islander/American History
  • History of Islamic Societies
  • Introduction to Native American History
  • Pacific Northwest History
