SEXUAL ORIENTATION SUPPORT GROUP INFORMATION

Gonzaga University, through the Office of Student Life, takes seriously its obligations to create a safe supportive educational environment for all students, including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered (GLBT) in their sexual identity. Gonzaga’s approach to sexual orientation is drawn from the Non-Discrimination Policy, the Commitment to Human Diversity, Catholic Social Teaching, and a commitment to helping students develop their whole selves. Gonzaga also recognizes that GLBT students have special needs which may need to be addressed, so the University strives to meet those needs in appropriate ways in accordance with our Catholic, Jesuit, Humanistic mission.

Gonzaga will not tolerate harassment or discrimination based on sexual orientation towards people of minority sexual orientations. Everyone has the equal right to enjoy and reap the benefits of our educational environment. Any breach of Gonzaga policy, local, state or federal law should be brought to the attention of Campus Public Safety & Security, the Center For Equal Opportunity, or the Student Life office.

The Gonzaga Support Group enhances Gonzaga’s educational commitment to its students by improving the environment for the GLBT members of our community. By providing physical signs of welcome and by inviting the University community to ongoing conversations, we can make a difference for all Gonzaga students. The University seeks to affirm and support our GLBT students by providing, upon request, a confidential support group for gay and lesbian students who seek to understand their sexual identity or receive support from students who understand the rigors of living as a GLBT person. For more information please contact the Dean of Student Formation at 323-4100 or ext. 4100. A GLBT Resource Center is housed in Unity House.
