Unity House’s primary purpose is to assist Gonzaga University in developing and expanding its commitment to recruit, nurture and retain students, faculty and staff of diverse cultural backgrounds who add to, and can benefit from the distinctive educational and social experience of campus and community life.  We are constantly working to be proactive in the development and preservation of an academic and social climate that assures reflective, fair, equitable, and just treatment for the general well being of African American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American (AHANA) people and all people within the Gonzaga Community.

The Center director serves as Gonzaga’s Director of Multicultural Education.  The director’s primary responsibility at Unity House is to create and maintain a welcoming and nurturing environment where people feel safe, at home, and free to discuss and/or resolve matters of educational and social importance to them. Unity House is home away from home.  It has a full kitchen, meeting rooms, a computer room, cable T.V. and plenty of yard space for cook outs.  It serves as a regular meeting place for numerous student clubs, support groups, and community organizations.  It is a comfortable place to study, to make new friends and to just relax.  Unity House is the place to experience unity through our diversity.

The Unity House Cultural Education Center staff plans, assist others in planning, and sponsors numerous cultural events throughout the year.  They also work to encourage all students, faculty, and staff, to participate in cultural and cross-cultural educational and social learning experiences both on campus and in the greater Spokane Community.  Unity House Cultural Education Center is part of the office of the Associate Vice President of Diversity.
