Off-Campus Living

About Living Off Campus:

If you are no longer under the Residency Requirement of the university, you can entertain the idea of living off campus.  We hope you choose to continue to stay with us on campus as we are busy building great apartment communities uniquely attractive to upper division students.  But you may be intrigued by the idea of striking out on your own a bit.  This can be both exciting and scary.  Although our office deals mostly with on campus housing, we are here to help you the best we can as you search for off campus housing.  In our office you will find we maintain a bulletin board of landlords and rental agencies which conduct business with GU students and are advertising vacancies 12 months of the year.  You can browse the various options to your left to gain more information and contact information for everything from furniture companies to the utility companies, ideas on sub-letting during summer months to connection to the Washington State Landlord/Tenant Laws.  We hope this information assists you.  If you would like some personal advice from a housing professional, please contact our office.  The Director invites personal meetings to talk about off campus living from anyone wanting more personal and specific information on this complex topic.
We maintain a virtual bulletin board for landlords who are interested in working with college students in our area.  For this listing, you can go to the link below and we encourage you to bookmark this as a "favorite" website.

Housing Off Campus but Owned by the University:

The Office of Housing and Residence Life manages and operates 4 theme houses and 51 apartments in the off-campus neighborhood adjacent to Gonzaga University. These properties have been acquired in recent years as a means of providing additional living opportunities for juniors, senior, graduate, law, married students, and students with children.

Because of the proximity to campus, and moderate pricing, as well as the peace of mind associated with a "university as landlord" relationship, the number of applications that are received every year for these properties far outweigh the number of available spaces. Preference, therefore, is given only to registered Gonzaga students, who have fulfilled the University's two year on-campus living requirement or are above 21 years of age. Incoming freshman, and sophomore status students are not eligible for off-campus housing.

These are unfurnished apartment and house facilities.  The Theme Houses currently remain as the same themes every year and we tend to allow the students to return and pick roommates to fill vacancies.  The apartment facilities vary in location and style.  Some are one bedroom, some two.  Some are ground floor, others third floor.

Students are responsible for their own utilities and none of these units are connected to neither the University phone system nor the data lines.

For further information on Gonzaga University's off-campus properties, residency requirements or to obtain an application, please contact Nicole Sakraida.  She works for Residence Life and Housing department which manages the GU owned and managed off-campus properties.  She can be reached at (509)323-4103 or through e-mail sakraida@gonzaga.edu

Not Owned by the University:

Spokane is a large city.  You will have no problem finding that special place to live off campus while attending Gonzaga if you are flexible with how far away from the campus you wish to live.  Most students manage to live within a half mile of GU.  To assist you with non university owned rentals, the rest of the informational buttons to the left will assist you.  In addition, you should become fully aware of Washington State Landlord Tenant Law.  Currently, there is a state Web site connection for this at:
