Homeless Outreach is a program at Gonzaga that strives to provide opportunities for students that would like to aid the Spokane community in dignifying, uplifting, de-marginalizing, and connecting with the homeless population. This mission is not effectively pursued by donating goods and time at institutions that provide services to the homeless, but with conscious, humble, selfless interactions that work to humanize and honor the homeless population as equal members of the human community. This program seeks to raise awareness about what it means to be homeless and how every person can help without creating a stigma of shame.
To achieve this mission, Homeless Outreach provides 2 unique opportunities for students to volunteer:
1. Football Saturdays - on Saturday afternoons from 12pm - 3pm we join with men and women at the House of Charity in downtown Spokane in a shared experience centered around College Football.
2. Meals at St. Margaret's - on Wednesday evenings from 5pm - 7:30pm, students venture to St. Margaret's shelter for women and children, working alongside the women to create and share a meal. Students build relationships with the women and their children through story sharing and community building.
Applications to volunteer with Homeless Outreach are available HERE and will be accepted on a rolling basis or until all spots are filled.
