WHY DOES 'LOCAL' MATTER?

Gonzaga's Center for Community Action and Service-Learning (CCASL) will be hosting a Just Desserts event on Tuesday, April 3 at 7:00 pm in Wolff Auditorium. The event will focus on the social justice issue of local buying, fostering a discussion on our foods and products. We will look specifically at our campus and Spokane community culture; what are we buying, where are we buying, and where is it coming from?

Our Call to Action for students and attendees will be a local fair and market, where Spokane vendors inform students on what decisions they can make locally to instill informed decision-making of purchasing products. Come see, feel, smell and taste local Spokane food and products during this Call to Action fair!

Please join us for a night of awareness, education, dialogue, critique, call to action... and of course, dessert! Just Desserts: Join the discussion!

Goal/Objectives:

"Just Desserts" aspires to espouse Gonzaga's mission of preparing "enlightened dedication to the... ideals of justice and peace" and sparking a "restless curiosity, a desire for truth, a mature concern for others, and a thirst for justice" in all participants, while supporting CCASL's mission of creating "men and women for others" by upholding the following objectives:

"Just Desserts" will... Provide students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to convene together to explore pertinent social justice issues of our global and local communities. Increase campus awareness about specific struggles, barriers, and inequalities present in our modern world. Cause students to think critically about these injustices by providing them with accurate information and compelling testimonies. Offer a welcoming and comfortable environment that solicits respectful, thoughtful, and educated dialogue. Encourage participants to become involved in campus and community efforts that address each month's social justice issue.
