Building upon the foundation of a successful initial conference in 2004, this conference will convene leading academics from multiple disciplines worldwide. Those disciplines include law enforcement, journalism, education, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, human rights, community organization, activism, and others to discuss hatred from multiple perspectives. The lessons learned and plans that will emerge from this conference will help educators, researchers, law enforcement, human rights advocates, and others better analyze and combat hatred in its various manifestations. Save the date as more information will be coming soon. For more information, please contact the Institute via e-mail at againsthate@gonzaga.edu or call Jim Mohr, acting director, at (509) 313-3665. http://www.gonzaga.edu/News-and-Events/newsdetail.asp?EventID=4990 Vision: Journal of Hate Studies Calls for Papers "Vision: The Journal of Hate Studies" is an international scholarly journal promoting the sharing of interdisciplinary ideas and research relating to the study of what hate is, where it comes from, and how to combat it. It presents cutting-edge essays, theory, and research that deepen the understanding of the development and expression of hate. The Journal aims to provide a deeper understanding of the processes that encourage the expression of hate so that methods of challenging and stopping its expression may be based on theory and research. The Journal reflects the optimism that as hate is understood, it can be contained and controlled allowing for persons to reach their full human potential without fear of retribution. Writing and Content: The Journal seeks articles written with precision and depth, and that are compelling for a wide audience. Articles accepted for publication are citation-based (APA style), with high quality underlying philosophical and psychological development of thought. A primary criterion for acceptance is the level to which the article enriches, extends, and advances the study and understanding of hate in its multiplicity of forms. We are interested in articles from various disciplines that address the topic of The Other Among Us. We are particularly interested in articles that focus on immigration, refugees, or second-generation peoples who may have been born in one country but are still seen as being representatives of another, tourists, and others who cross national borders. However, articles are also encouraged from a range of perspectives on engagement or disengagement with "the other" in our society, culture, and lives. We also continue to accept articles related to teaching about hate in the classroom or strategies for combating it. We would like to extend a special invitation to scholars from disciplines such as history, communications, sociology, psychology, philosophy, womens studies, anthropology, political science, economics, literature, and religious studies. Submissions are due by Feb. 1, 2010, and should be between 5,000-10,000 words. Submissions should include one hard copy and an electronic copy in MS Word format. Please do not submit PDF files. Submissions should be presented in APA format and contain endnotes rather than footnotes. Address submissions and questions to the Gonzaga University Institute for Action Against Hate, AD Box 43, 502 E. Boone Avenue, Spokane WA 99258-0043; email address: againsthate@gonzaga.edu; phone: (509) 313-3665. http://www.gonzaga.edu/News-and-Events/newsdetail.asp?EventID=4989 Hibbs, Barrus Earn Law Scholarships http://www.gonzaga.edu/News-and-Events/newsdetail.asp?EventID=4870
