Dennis A. & Peggy M. Calfee Scholarship
2010-2011 Recipient: Kristyn Campbell
One thing you can say about Kristyn Campbell, she has a plan and she's determined to follow it through. The fact that she is driven has been evident since she was a student at Colfax High School. While there she played on the volleyball team, which won the State 1A Championship Tournament in both her junior and senior years. She found great success academically as well, and as a result was a member of the Colfax Honors Society.Fast forward to Gonzaga University. "I chose Gonzaga because of all the schools I applied to it was the most accredited. I also like that we are required to take religion and philosophy classes because they create a more well-rounded person."
What she likes best about Gonzaga are the professors. "They have taught me so much about life, which is helping me in everyday situations. They have taught me to think outside the box, and to not judge anyone before you get to know them. I have become much more accepting of people and their ways of life."
In her first year at Gonzaga, Kristyn played club softball, and has volunteered at Alexandria's House, a home for teen mothers. Now, as a senior, her studies and family take most of her time, as she is a mechanical engineering major, a wife, and the mother of a 15-month-old baby boy.
Kristyn is the first from her family to be a Zag, and will be the first to earn a bachelor's degree. After she graduates she plans to return to Colfax, hopes to start her engineering career there, and eventually wants to return to school to earn a master's degree in business.
She asked to convey this message to the benefactors behind her scholarship: "I would like to thank them for the financial help with school. It is very reassuring to know that I have reliable help to assist my goal of finishing college. Again thank you so much, and I wish you well and also to your other scholarship recipients."
