“Searching for Solid Ground in an Age of Uncertainty:
Lonergan’s approach invites us to become better acquainted with our God-given capacities to ask questions, to understand, to reach judgments about what is true and what is false, and to make decisions that promote progress and resist decline. This kind of self-knowledge doesn’t head off into a realm of bloodless, abstract ideas. Instead, it helps us to know more accurately, make more effective decisions about the concrete issues we face every day, and discern with greater clarity the ultimate meaning of our lives. J. Michael Stebbins is the Director of the Gonzaga Ethics Institute. He received his doctorate in systematic theology from Boston College and has been researching, teaching, and writing about Lonergan’s work for over 30 years.
