Danielle Hyatt has spent her whole life monitoring her most vital organ because she has tachycardia, a faster than normal heart rate. The condition has inspired her to become a heart surgeon. This summer, the Gonzaga junior will take an important step toward realizing her goal when she works at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Hyatt, a biology major, was accepted into the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Exceptional Research Opportunities Program, which pairs top researchers with exceptional students from disadvantaged or underrepresented groups.
