Christelle Gorman, Washington DC Alumni Chapter President

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by remembering my past, present and looking forward to the future. From my life in Cote d'Ivoire to my life today, I am grateful (you think you know...but you have no idea). I have high hopes and the sky is the limit. Today, to celebrate National Gonzaga Day, I am hosting a game watch with more than 40 RSVPs from GU alumni and friends; by organizing a food, coat and household item drive for the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV), the largest homeless shelter in DC; by wearing my Zag gear and telling all my friends and colleagues about being a Zag for life; and, last but not the least, by continuing ma joie de vivre (my joy of living) through the Jesuit tradition of service. I am a Zag for life and love it. I love you too.

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by taking over fresh-baked cookies to my neighbor's house and inviting her son and daughter to go sledding and make snow angels with me and my wife on the hill in our neighborhood. She's a single mother who moved into our neighborhood this fall and her kids are great. I just want them to know that we are right down the road if they need help brightening up their day and having some fun in the cold.

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by raising the university banner in the TAHRIR Square. That's the most famous place in the world, period, and the closest place to my heart. I want more of Arabs to know the university. – Ahmed Ashour We're celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...wearing our Zag gear (which we do every game day) while serving lunch to local needy at our parish faith-based Friendship Feast (which we do every Thursday). We also let everyone we know what a great school Gonzaga is and what a great education we received at this great University.

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 with Spirit. I’m a Basketball fan and I have never seen so much spirit as at a Zag Game. I think overall of all campuses around the Inland Northwest, Gonzaga has the most Spirit. They sure do take pride in their athletes. Also, the Inspiration on the Campus is amazing. They Inspire their students and their staff in all they do by working hard and supporting the students and athletes. That’s why Gonzaga is a great place.

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...spending the day with my two daughters, ages 8 and 5, who are both cancer survivors. We are so thankful for Coaches vs. Cancer, and their fundraising for Camp Goodtimes. I'll also be studying for my classes. I'm hoping to transfer to Gonzaga in two years and be a part of a community that has been so supportive of families who have a child with cancer.

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...studying. It's been a dream of mine to attend Gonzaga ever since I could remember. And while everyone is partying on National Gonzaga Day, I'm going to be in my room, trying to do as many AP US History notes as possible, and after that, help out with my school's talent show by writing the script and leading the talent show committee, because it is through the leadership club at my school. And I know how hard it is to get into Gonzaga, so I'm trying as hard as I can to get a scholarship (I can't afford this place) to be a Zag, then go to Law School, and practice law.

Beck Fritzsche

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by promising to financially help a future Gonzaga Student get through school (such as somebody has kindly done for me) so that learning and growing are the primary issues instead of money.

Angela Geiss

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...working at my dream job for Make-A-Wish. I was first introduced to volunteer work when required to do service learning for my Catholicism class at GU. My love for giving back to my community started there and has only grown over time, leading me to ultimately choose a career in non-profit work. I have the privilege of granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses on a daily basis by bringing hope, strength and joy to their lives. Thanks for teaching me the beauty of service, gratitude and sprit Gonzaga!

Jennifer Golan

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by writing a letter to our small group of family and friends who offered to help support our family while my husband attends the MIT program at Gonzaga. Four years ago, just about to the day, our family with two young children was shocked to be facing a major medical crisis. Since that time, we have faced the ups of beating an advanced cancer diagnosis and the downs of the financial pit of despair that can come with out of pocket medical expenses and lost income due to illness. We feel truly blessed to have such an incredible group of supporters who came together to offer us this opportunity and we like to take every chance we can get to remind them (and ourselves) how thankful we are. I think it's a great way to share the learning, success, inspiration and gratitude aspects of Gonzaga's mission on National Gonzaga Day.

Matt Gerdes

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by working at Gonzaga, assisting the students, staff, faculty and visitors on campus. I will provide service with a smile, a helping hand with humor and protection without protagonism. I will be at the ready when members of the GU community experience the challenges and joys of being at Gonzaga. I will be there all night with my fellow Officers responding to the needs of Gonzaga, regardless the weather, regardless the hour. I get to do this as my job, and I love it.

Mike Hall

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...taking time out to remind myself that winning is not the goal in life, but something that occurs as a part of the journey.

Robert House

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by showing my Gonzaga Pride and talking about the inherent human dignity we all deserve as children of God by furthering the work of the Matthew Shepard Foundation and building bridges between Holy Mother Church and the LGBT community.

Megan Isenhower

I would be celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by attending the BYU v. Gonzaga Men's Basketball game; however, I donated my tickets to the Gonzaga Business Forum to raise scholarship funds. Instead, I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by representing the Jr. League of Seattle at a leadership conference for the Association of Junior Leagues International, a not-for-profit organization of women creating demonstrable community impact. I will find a TV to help cheer on the Zags!

Michael McGee

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...remembering how fortunate I am to still have my mother and father in my life, even though my dad is facing life-threatening cancer. I have decided to come out to Gonzaga to as a graduate student for the first time to celebrate the spirit and community embodied by Gonzaga. I've had to rearrange my travel plans to make the celebration, but I know that the sense of togetherness I will feel will make the trip worthwhile and recharge my feelings of faith, family and community. This hasn't been an easy trip to pull off, but the rewards in the end are far greater than the initial sacrifices that I will make. This will not be a distance celebration...instead I will be going to Gonzaga for the first time in my life and I could not be more excited. Go Zags!

Emily Paulson

My name is Emily Paulson. I graduated from Gonzaga in 2004 and have been working at the Center for Community Action and Service Learning since January of 2008. I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by serving the usual 300+ meals the Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga serves every Thursday. Our student leaders and volunteers will be leaving our Campus Kitchen Community Dinner tomorrow night and heading over to the Spokane Convention Center where we will collect and transport the food collected at our local National Gonzaga Day event! Through my work with the Campus Kitchen, I see the commitment to service instilled in our students, staff, and faculty on a daily basis. I am, and always will be, proud to be a Zag!

Michael Schmitt, Class of '74

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...saying a simple prayer of thanks for everyone from Gonzaga who has touched my life over the years...teachers, staff, advisors, benefactors, lifelong friends that I met at Gonzaga...and most especially for my wife Vicki whom I met at GU when we were students. Both of our sons are GU alums, and they met their wives at Gonzaga, too. We have five grandkids, and I pray that one day they might be a part of the Jesuit tradition that is Gonzaga University. GU has certainly molded my life...not just in academics, but more importantly in my relationship to God and to my fellow men. As St. Paul once wrote... "I thank God every day for you..." After my prayer, I'm going to watch the Zags win another game on their way to the best season ever! GO ZAGS!

Erica Shea

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by reaching out to my Gonzaga community: old friends, teachers, students from my home state, members of my local alumni chapter, etc. We need to talk to each other, pray with one another, and work together to keep the Gonzaga spirit alive! Of course the day won't be complete without everyone in my family proudly donning their Gonzaga wear.

Lauri Shenefelt

I'm celebrating National Gonzaga Day on Thursday, January 24, 2013 by...bringing a group of young ladies from our Riverside AAU Basketball Team. We are excited to spend time with others that want to watch the Girls ZAGS win.... Can't wait spend time with the large cheering team. GO... ZAGS!

I also have the joy of working with the Gonzaga College High School (DC) hockey team on a tutoring program every week-- Zags and Zag spirit the nation over!

Becky Stein
