On this day Zags everywhere will unite in spirit and gather in person to celebrate all things Gonzaga. Whether you're a student, alumni, parent, or casual fan we invite you to join the celebration. For certain, plan to show your pride and wear your Zag gear on Jan. 24!

  Congratulations to Christelle Gorman and Kenny Pecka, our two Grand Prize winners in the National Gonzaga Day Prize Giveaway! As Grand Prize winners, Christelle and Kenny will each receive an iPad mini, two men’s basketball tickets, and an overnight stay courtesy Red Lion Hotels. Their answers to the question “How will you celebrate National Gonzaga Day?” embodied many aspects of Gonzaga’s mission and celebrated the importance of community in a creative way.

  We received over two hundred answers from members of our community around the world. We were overwhelmed to hear so many great memories and celebration ideas. Thank you to everyone who shared their plans for National Gonzaga Day and celebrated with us. We hope that you will continue to reflect on learning, service, faith, spirit, success, inspiration, tradition, and gratitude each and every day.

  I will celebrate learning by

  • watching one of Gonzaga's 12.5 minute lectures.
  • making a commitment to further my education.
  • sharing my expertise on a topic with someone I know.
  • joining a book club.
  • learning something new.
  • telling someone about a place in the world I've visited.

  I will celebrate service by

  • volunteering with a non-profit organization.
  • donating a coat or canned food items to a local charity.
  • shoveling my neighbors' driveway.
  • visiting a retirement home.
  • tutoring at a local school.
  • referring someone to Gonzaga's not-for-profit legal services.

  I will celebrate faith by

  • submitting a prayer to Gonzaga's online prayer community.
  • attending a church service.
  • signing up for one of Gonzaga's spiritual retreats.
  • visiting the Gonzaga Grotto to light a candle, reflect, and pray.
  • making time for reflection with a quiet walk or meditation.
  • practicing the daily Jesuit Examen.

  I will celebrate spirit by

  • wearing my favorite Gonzaga apparel (especially on Jan. 24, 2013).
  • attending a National Gonzaga Day event in my area.
  • digging out that old Kennel Club t-shirt.
  • putting a Gonzaga cheer sign in the window of my business.
  • watching the men's basketball game on TV (tip-off at 8 p.m. PST on ESPN2).
  • telling a friend or co-worker what it means to be a Zag.

  I will celebrate success by

  • hiring a Zag as an employee or intern.
  • congratulating a recent GU graduate.
  • calling my GU student to wish him/her luck on an upcoming test.
  • signing up to be a mentor for Gonzaga students.
  • making a gift to support a Gonzaga student's education.
  • reflecting on my career goals and developing a plan to achieve them.

  I will celebrate inspiration by

  • visiting Jundt Art Museum or a museum near me.
  • doing an art project with my kids.
  • writing a poem.
  • attending a performance by Gonzaga Theatre Arts or a local theatre group.
  • planning a trip to experience another culture.
  • having coffee with someone who inspires me.

  I will celebrate tradition by

  • visiting my favorite place on campus.
  • reading one of Gonzaga's anniversary books.
  • learning about Gonzaga's history.
  • ensuring Gonzaga's tradition of excellence continues in by making a gift that supports current Zags.
  • rekindling or starting a new tradition with my family.
  • digging out an old yearbook or visiting Gonzaga's online collection of yearbooks and Rogues Gallery of Images.

  I will celebrate gratitude by

  • telling my parents how much I appreciate everything they've done for me.
  • calling a former professor to thank them for the difference they made in my education.
  • making a gift to an organization that supports those in need.
  • writing a thank you letter to someone who supported my education.
  • letting a co-worker know how much I appreciate them.
  • telling someone in my family how much I love them.

• Attend an Event Near You

  Gonzaga is hosting events in more than 30 locations around the country (plus Japan!) that are open to all Zag fans, including an event in the Spokane Convention Center. The men's team will be taking on BYU in McCarthey Athletic Center, while the women are at Pepperdine. In addition to rooting for the teams, these events will feature updates from Gonzaga representatives, prizes and a special live halftime webcast from The Kennel featuring President Thayne McCulloh. All events are part of a nation-wide service drive. Please plan to bring an item for donation.

  If you are attending the men's game in the Kennel, be sure to stay in your seat the first five minutes of halftime so you don't miss this special message.

  Registration for the Spokane Community Event closes at 6 p.m. PST on Wednesday, January 23.

  At the beginning of halftime of the men's basketball game (approx. 9:00 p.m. PST), there will be a short, special program that will broadcast live on the web. No matter where you are, you can see it right here, featuring a video showcasing alumni around the world, shout-outs from celebrations across the country and a special message from President Thayne McCulloh.
