Help demonstrate, educate and raise awareness about the negative impact of intolerance, bias and various forms of hate locally and globally. Be one of the hundreds who link arms across campus. The line of solidarity starts at UMEC, and we hope to make an impact all the way to Jepson Hall! Spread the word...we start linking arms at 4:00 pm sharp, Monday, November 16.

International Day of Tolerance at Gonzaga University
Spokane, WA - Monday, November 16, 2009
Monday, November 16th is the United Nations' (UN) International Day for Tolerance. The day is recognized around the world to affirm the on-going need to educate and raise awareness about the negative impact of intolerance, bias and various forms of hate. The significance of the day from a global perspective reiterates the importance of respecting and recognizing the rights and beliefs of individuals who are often times marginalized.
Promptly at 4:00 p.m., an estimated 300 faculty, staff, students and members of the Spokane community will form a line of solidarity - human chain of interlocked arms- beginning at Unity Multicultural Education Center (UMEC) at 709 E. Desmet and continuing west past Crosby Student Center, to collaboratively demonstrate the value of actively supporting inclusion at Gonzaga University and the Spokane community at large. Gonzaga Interim President, Dr. Thayne McCulloh will speak on the steps of Crosby at approximately 4:15 p.m. Local city officials and other community constituents are invited to participant. The event will end at approximately 4:30 p.m.
This event is co-sponsored by Gonzaga University's Unity Multicultural Education Center and Institute for Action against Hate.
