Catholic Studies

What You’ll Study

The Catholic Studies program at Gonzaga offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the Catholic intellectual tradition through courses in the areas of religious studies, philosophy, history, classical studies, and the arts. In our program, students explore both the development of the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, and the ways in which the Catholic intellectual tradition brings those teachings and practices into dialogue with various cultures. The program offers a minor in Catholic Studies.

What can I do with a minor in Catholic Studies?

A Catholic Studies minor invites students to an intellectual exploration of the Catholic tradition. The study of Catholicism not only expands your awareness of various histories and cultures but also builds critical thinking skills, preparing you for a future in graduate school, law school, religious ministry, religious education, social justice advocacy, and many other careers. A minor in Catholic studies complements majors across the university with an interdisciplinary program of study that adds depth to the undergraduate experience. Previous minors have gone on to careers in Catholic primary and secondary education, law, engineering, and ministry.
