Gonzaga Institute for Hate Studies

The Gonzaga Institute for Hate Studies advances the interdisciplinary field of Hate Studies and disseminates new theories, models, and discoveries about hate.

As a working definition, Hate Studies inquires into "the human capacity to define, and then dehumanize or demonize, an ‘other,’ and the processes that inform and give expression to, or can curtail, control, or combat, that capacity.”

As part of a Jesuit institution located in Spokane, Washington, the Institute for Hate Studies advances the social justice mission of the University, as well as its commitments to academic excellence, diversity, global engagement, and peacebuilding.  The Institute is a positive, enduring, globally unique organization for its focus of academic resources in interdisciplinary fashion on the causes and effects of hatred as well as strategies to combat it.
