Dr. Cynthia Johnson
Assistant Professor and Program Director / Supervisor for Principal / Program Administrator Certification (Washington State), DELA 714 E Boone Ave AD Box 25 Spokane, WA 99258-0025 Phone: (509) 313-3650 Office Location Cynthia Johnson has been involved in education since 1994 with seven years of experience as a school administrator for both elementary and intermediate schools, achieving recent recognition as one of five finalists for the 2007 Texas Principal of the Year. She received her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership with a cognate focus on the role of Superintendent in Schools from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She has two masters degrees, one in School Administration and the other in Special Education. She also holds state certifications in Elementary Education, Special Education, Biology, School Administrator, and Superintendent. Her areas of interest in education have been creating effective teaching teams, building school morale, on-line learning, at-risk students, and their families. In December of 2012 she received the Leading for Professional Learning Award from the Learning Forward Organization. |

Dr. Grant Lenarduzzi

Past research and publications were in the areas of student performance and supporting at-risk youth. Current research interests are in leadership practices, Aboriginal education, and system communication. |

I have taught full time here since 1992. I currently present courses in two programs: The Master of Arts in Leadership and Administration, and the Master of Anesthesiology Education. The main courses I teach are ethics, research, leadership, teaching strategies, educational evaluation, and curricular design. My primary area of research is the practical and professional ethics of teachers and administrators. This research evolved into designing and teaching courses in ethics for the Department of Leadership and Administration, and it has evolved into two books. One of the books, Ethics and the School Administrator: Balancing Today's Complex Issues, published in 2006, has been adopted in several colleges and universities as a text for administration and leadership programs. This book helps administrators understand and more effectively deal with the ethical compromises that arise from the complex organizational and interpersonal demands of their leadership roles. The other book, Ethics in the Classroom: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice, was published in 2008. This book, too, has been adopted in several colleges and universities as a text for teacher training programs and master's degree programs. This book helps show educators how they might choose among ethical approaches to decision-making as they face the difficult choices they make every day. Another recent publication is Overload and Collapse in the K-12 System, an edited book my colleague, Al Fein, and I wrote and published in 2008. That collaboration was designed to help get the profound messages of our Canadian students' research findings into the hands of educators and policy makers. My first book, An Organizational, Social Psychological, and Ethical Analysis of School Administrators' use of Deception, was published in 2003. This book examines the role of organizational dynamics in shaping ethically compromising situations. Whether teaching in the Master of Anesthesiology Education program or the Master of Arts in Leadership and Administration program, I feel truly blessed to be with my colleagues here at Gonzaga as we focus on our most important work - which is to help nurse anesthetists, teachers, school administrators, and other educators transform their professional practice in order to improve the lives of others. |
