Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta is the National Honors Society in History.  Created in 1921, Phi Alpha Theta now has 820 active chapters.  The Xi-Gamma Chapter of the society at Gonzaga has been active since 1968.

The Xi-Gamma chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is enjoying another busy and productive year, during which it has organized a number of services and events.



Services and Events:


Internship Brown Bag Luncheon, College Hall 427, Thursday, February 21, 12:10-1pm.  We will be unveiling the History Department's new internship for credit course.  In this presentation you will hear from our Internship Coordinator, Dr. Veta Schlimgen, and history major Jackie Pittaway, who completed a summer internship.

Spring 2013 Tutoring Schedule: Beginning January 30, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., College Hall 237.

Eastern Washington History Bee & Bowl: PAT students Anthony Johnson, Kelly Smale, Alexandra Manning, Alex Hagel, and Emily Wakefield helped run the History Bee and Bowl at Mt. Spokane High School, Saturday, January 12.  Thank you!!


Fall Family Weekend 2012: Campus Tours!  Friday (October 19) at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday (October 20) at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  Each one-hour tour begins outside St. Al's Church and will explore a brief history of several campus buildings.  Murder, hauntings, stained glass windows, and Jesuits!  Fun for the whole family!


Brown Bag Lunch:  "Let's Talk Turkey!"  Students will discuss the benefits of studying abroad and share their experiences studying in Turkey last summer.  Thursday, October 4, 12:10, College Hall 424.

Membership:


To be eligible for Phi Alpha Theta, undergraduate students must meet the following requirements:

1.  At least twelve hours of History at the time of application;

2. 3.1 or higher GPA in History;

3. 3.0 or higher overall GPA;

4. Membership fee of $40, due at time of application.


Membership is not limited to History majors.  An application is available here or in the History Department, College Hall 431.
