Professional Certification

The program is configured to connect with and support the professional responsibilities of a beginning educator while inquiring into the nature of those responsibilities. The program begins summer session I (May) or fall, using a cohort structure for improved personal contact, increased professional relationships, and certification continuity. After the initial course, students continue to prepare their Professional Certification portfolio.
Candidates may be recommended for certification by Gonzaga's Professional Certification program until August 31st, 2011 (a candidate must take all 7 credits unless transferring from another Professional Certification program for Gonzaga to recommend certification). After August 31st, 2011, candidates must submit their Professional Certification work through the online ProTeach portfolio process. Site-based cohorts, tailored to specific district priorities, may be formed through partnership with the School of Education. In Track 1, Certification Only, the courses are designated as professional development credit at $175.00 per credit (cohorts out of the Spokane area are $200.00 per credit).
A Spring Professional Certification cohort will begin on May 17th at 4:30pm in the Rosauer Center, room 240. A second cohort is scheduled to begin September of 2010. For more information about starting dates, contact Sharon Straub (509-313-3662).
