Students enrolled in Nursing Department courses must have a working knowledge of the use of computer hardware, software, and internet connectivity.

Required:
Hardware
DVD-RW Player (may be part of personal computer or connected to television
Personal computer (desktop or laptop)
Operating system: Windows 98 (prefer XP) or later OR Apple* with OS 10 or later
Sound capability native sound or separate sound card with speakers
Printer
* If using Apple computer, student must be able to INDEPENDENTLY manage complex document transfer to and from Windows NT network.

Connectivity
Internet access (high speed “ cable modem, DSL, or other) preferable but not required
Internet browser (NOT AOL) Internet Explorer or Netscape
Email program (NOT AOL) that allows user to manage document transfer without size limitation

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Powerpoint or  Powerpoint Viewer (Viewer is free software that will allow you to open and read PowerPoint documents even if you do not own the software) available for free download at: Free PowerPoint Viewer

Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software that will allow you to open and use documents that have been compressed into .pdf “Portable Document Format") “ available for free download at: Free Adobe Reader

Aladdin Stuffit Expander (free software available that will allow you to "decode" compressed files such as those in .zip or .binhex format) available for free download at: Free Stufft Expander

Quick Time available as a free download at: Free QuickTime
