1 . Can I apply for a Master of Science in Nursing if I already have a Bachelor degree in another major, such as a B.A. in business? ^

Yes, if you meet the basic requirement that you are a Registered Nurse with a current license. Your non-nursing Bachelor degree transcripts will be reviewed and evaluated, and you can be admitted into the MSN program, usually completing some nursing-specific prerequisites when you enter the program.

2 . Distance learning sounds perfect for me. How do the clinicals work?^

Clinicals are arranged by students selecting preceptors in their hometown. The Department of Nursing maintains lists of individuals who have worked with students in the past. Most students who are seeking a clinical experience with a particular Nurse Practitioner, Physician, or Physician's Assistant make an appointment to meet the potential preceptor. During that appointment they share their résumé, discuss clinical goals and respond to questions. In some situations, the student would meet with an Office or Business Manager instead of meeting directly with the potential preceptor. Each student enrolled in a clinical course is assigned to work with a faculty member, either campus-based or adjunct faculty. The assigned faculty member will visit the student at least once in the clinical setting per semester. Clinical faculty also grade student's written work and are available by telephone or email for consultation throughout each semester while the student is enrolled in a clinical course.

3 . Who should be my preceptor if I am studying to be a Family Nurse Practitioner?^

At least 50% of the required 600 clinical hours must be spent working with a preceptor who is a Nurse Practitioner. The remainder of the hours can be spent working with preceptors who are Physicians or certified Physician's Assistants.

4 . Does Gonzaga offer a nursing refresher course if your RN license has lapsed?^

Not at this time. Check with your local community college.

5 . I am a Registered Nurse and I do not have a bachelor degree, but I want to work towards completing my master degree as a career goal. How long will your RN-MSN program take to complete if I am working?^

Most registered nurses enter the RN-MSN program with 60-95 transfer credits. The majority of students enroll in 6-7 credits per semester, working part-time. Based on those general guidelines, approximately four years is average to complete the master degree. In some cases, the course load may be adjusted for faster or slower progression within limits of course availability.

6 . Does Gonzaga offer a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program?^

Yes. The CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist) program is offered through the School of Education. Contact that program at (509)323-3481 for information or click here to go to their website.
