If I can't find my immunization records, or I need a vaccinations can I get them at the Health Center when I arrive on campus?

Yes, but it is better to have it taken care of before you arrive.

Where can I get my medical records?

Many times your former school has them, your local physicians office or parents may have a certified copy of immunizations.

Do I need to have the other shots mentioned on the form? What about Menomune?
^
It is not mandatory, but recommended, especially the meningitis vaccination. There has been a slight increase of this preventable disease on campuses nationwide. The vaccine prevents four of the known five bacterial meningitis. These diseases are extremely serious and may even cause death. Ask your physician about them and again it is better to have them before you arrive.

Do I really need to have two measles shots?

Yes, it is a mandatory policy to protect the community.

Do I need a physical before I arrive.
^
No, but it helps to fill out the health history and immunization. Some sports and clubs require a physical before you arrive. It may be mandatory for participation. If you have had one during the past year, bring that record, if not we can arrange one for you in September, either on campus or at another office in town.

Do you need an insurance plan to access your services?
^
No, but a plan is highly recommended. We have a plan that the University facilitates for accident and illnesses. The accident portion is automatic, all undergraduates have that plan in the event an accident happens. Click HERE for more information.

How much is the plan?

It varies, but has been around $500 per academic year.

What does the insurance plan cover?
^
That is a lengthy question and usually we will send out a brochure as soon as it is available or you may also pick one up at Student Accounts.

We have an HMO plan. Will we need additional insurance?
^
It depends on the plan and their out of area coverage. Question them about this as well as other routine care, for instance an orthopedic referral.

Can anyone, besides a doctor write a prescription when I need one?

Yes, Nurses Practitioners can also prescribe.

Do I need an appointment?

It usually is best to make one, but walk-ins are seen as time allows.
