Charé Gilliam
Program Coordinator

Hey All! My name is Charé and I am a Senior majoring in Political Science and Criminal Justice. I am from East St. Louis, IL via Puyallup, WA and I am your Lead Program Coordinator!!! I am so excited to plan BRIDGE this year and can't wait to meet the BRIDGE '14 class this year. I am President of Black Student Union this upcoming year and I will also be going on the Ignation Family Teach-In for Justice this year in Washington D.C. This past year I had the pleasure of studying abroad in London and can now call myself a world traveler. During my freshmen year, I participated in BRIDGE and it was one of the highlights of my GU experience. Through BRIDGE I was able to create a lasting family and I can't wait for the incoming BRIDGE participants to experience the same. I love watching movies and television, dancing, singing, and I am obsessed with music. In the future, I hope to become a lawyer within the juvenile delinquency system and to become an advocate on the importance of intercultural competency within the world.

Emmanuel "Manny" Lopez

Public Relations Coordinator

Hi! My Name is Emmanuel Lopez, but you can call me Manny, I am BRIDGE 2014's Public Relations Coordinator and I'm super excited to make this year's program the best it can possibly be! I am currently a Junior studying Physical Education with a concentration in Fitness Training. I am a member of La Raza Latina, National Residence Hall Honorary, Experiential Leadership Institute for the last two years, and was a participant and counselor/mentor for the BRIDGE and LEADS programs as well. I plan on becoming a Teacher/Coach, hopefully back home in Quincy, WA. I am the youngest of 4 with 3 older sisters so as you can imagine being a gentleman is a priority of mine! I was born on Christmas so naturally I love the holidays and LOVE spending time with family and friends. I'm a BIG sports fan; Basketball, Running, Football, and anything that gets me active really. Fun fact for ya, I am an avid karaoke enthusiast and campus Frisbee golf player; so if you like singing your heart out and attempting to break my -12 stroke record then we will most definitely get along :) I am uber excited to meet all of you wonderful BRIDGE students! Being in your position two short years ago I can say BRIDGE has made the greatest impact on my GU experience :)

What is BRIDGE?

The Summer BRIDGE is a pre-orientation program implemented by the Unity Multicultural Education Center. It is designed to assist students from multicultural and/or first generation backgrounds with a smooth transition to Gonzaga University and the Spokane area. It complements the New Student Orientation by providing incoming students with a lifetime of memories and friendships.

BRIDGE introduces students to Gonzaga faculty and staff as well as to other students of similar backgrounds. Students will be building their own bridge into the Gonzaga community and establishing strong and lasting relationships with people who will provide them with priceless information about campus services, programs, and student life.

BRIDGE allows students to build a foundation and a network within the Gonzaga community that will help them through their first year of college. The mentorship and learning process does not end at the conclusion of the BRIDGE program, but will continue on throughout the students' Gonzaga experience.
