STUDENT WELLNESS & PREVENTION EDUCATION

Mission: Empowering students and supporting them in making healthy choices that are true to their own values.

At the OPPEN House, we provide a place for students to receive free and confidential services for students who want assistance or information regarding their own use of alcohol, or other drugs.

  • The best way to avoid the negative consequences of drinking is to choose not to drink at all.
  • If you are under 21, it is illegal to drink. It is important to know the consequences of the law and GU policy.
  • If, however, you do make the choice to drink, we can talk about ways to do so in a less dangerous and less risky way.
  • Any steps toward reduced risks are steps in the right direction.
  • If you are making the choice to drink, the OPPEN House can help you modify your risk.

Information can also be obtained at the following:

  • Health Center 323-4052
  • Counseling & Career Assessment 323-4054
  • Addictions Counselor 323-4100

Gonzaga encourages students who suspect they have a substance use problem to seek assistance through the above campus resources. The University may refer students with problems beyond its means to outside rehabilitation or counseling services.

Peer Educators, known as Gonzaga Peers Listening and Understanding Students (G+) are available to talk with students about relationships, depression, or the mystery of blood alcohol levels.

GPLUS (G+):

  • promotes student respect for uniqueness of self and others
  • focuses on reducing student risk for injury and illness
  • creates awareness for healthy lifestyle habits through education
  • challenges students to contribute to a healthy university environment
  • practices skills for health and well being
