Orientation Necessities Checklist:
Here is a list of stuff that you should know/do before coming for orientation in August:
Orientation begins on Friday, August 29th. Students will be allowed to move-in some time in the early morning. This requires that either you wake up early (depending upon the length of your drive) and make it to campus for check in, or book a hotel reservation for Thursday night so you can swing into campus on Friday morning. Most students and their families normally book a hotel, because it is the easiest way to make move in day go smoothly. Either way, you must make travel plans accordingly, which brings us to...
If you plan on getting a hotel as mentioned above, you will need to book flights and hotels early for this event. This is crucial because of the high volume of traffic that will be prevalent during that weekend. For booking hotels, see our Accommodations Page. For directions on how to get to campus, see our Transportation and Directions Page Unfortunately Gonzaga can not provide a shuttle service.
Some times it can be hard to figure out what to bring to campus, but it's harder to figure out what NOT to bring to campus. Check out our What to Bring Resource Page for a detailed list of Residence Hall necessities.
There are many different places you can order books, both online and from private dealers. One of the easiest and carefree ways to purchase your books for classes is to buy them from the Gonzaga Bookstore ahead of time. You can purchase your books online and they will deliver them to your mail box on campus, granted that you signed up for your mail box ahead of time. Mailing Services will send out a mailbox registration card for students sometime this summer. The Gonzaga Bookstore Website can be reached by clicking here.
A map of campus can be accessed here. It is not a bad idea to print out a copy of this before move in day to cut down on stress and disorientation (the opposite of our objective).
Unfortunately, parents have to leave sometime. Sunday, August 31st at 3 P.M. is the time to exchange hugs and kisses, say your goodbyes, and let your student leave for their adventure. But don't worry, we'll look forward to seeing you for Fall Family Weekend in October.
