You’re Invited
Congratulations on your acceptance to Gonzaga! We are so excited to meet you, and to invite you to take part in our Summer BRIDGE Program!
What is it?
The Summer BRIDGE is a pre-orientation program designed to assist multicultural students in making a smooth transition to Gonzaga University and the Spokane area. Gonzaga University is a predominantly white institution, and Spokane is even less diverse. Many of our students come from schools that are predominantly white; however, when they go home they are still part of a very diverse community. Unfortunately, it is not the same in Spokane. Research has shown that multicultural students who attend predominantly white institutions need to build a solid foundation within that institution or may not potentially perform as well as they should academically. This is where the Summer BRIDGE program comes in. It complements the new student orientation by providing new students with a valuable first experience on campus. The Summer BRIDGE Program introduces students to Gonzaga staff, faculty, and veteran students from a variety of levels. Students will build relationships with people who can provide great information on specific campus services, programs, and campus life. Plus, the Summer BRIDGE helps familiarize students with the Gonzaga campus and surrounding area. The Summer BRIDGE helps students of color to build a foundation and a network that will help them throughout their years at Gonzaga.
When is it?
The BRIDGE Program runs from Tuesday, August 26th-Friday, August 29th. It leads up to the New Student Orientation that begins on Friday.
Why should I come?
So what?! What’s in it for you, you ask? Well, plenty! First, you will get a chance to be on campus before classes start and students start moving in. You will get to know the campus, get to make early purchases at the bookstore, get your picture taken for your ID card early, and even meet members of the Gonzaga Staff and faculty, so that when all the other freshman are running around like crazy trying to get everything done, you’ll be able to breathe easy and relax. You’ll also get to make lots of good friends, and develop a network of students, staff, and faculty that you can rely on throughout your time at Gonzaga. Plus, it’s fun! Sound good?
What else should I know?
As part of the Summer BRIDGE Program, you will be automatically a part of the Leadership, Education, Academic Development and Survival Skills (LEADS) Program which has monthly interactive workshops/seminars that will give you an edge on your peers to assist you to be successful during your time here at Gonzaga – while the workshops will be informative, we intend to have fun, after all work and no play… During the Summer BRIDGE Program you will be matched with a Peer Mentor who you will be able to contact with any issue after the program is over and you will have the opportunity to be matched with one of Gonzaga’s faculty or staff in a mentor relationship. What more could you ask for in a program?!
How do I sign up?
We are limiting the number of participants to fifty this year, so to make sure that you get a spot please call (509)313-3667 or follow the link to fill out the reply card. The cost of the program is $50.00 and an additional $10 fee for additional lunch guests (family or such). The deadline for registration has extended to July 14th.

We can’t wait to see you!

Welcome Parents!
Congratulations on your student’s acceptance to Gonzaga! We are so excited to meet both of you and to invite you all to take part in our Summer BRIDGE Program!
What is it?
The Summer BRIDGE is a pre-orientation program designed to assist multicultural students in making a smooth transition to Gonzaga University and the Spokane area. Research on retention and high graduation rates for multicultural students who attend predominantly white institutions has shown need to build a solid foundation within that institution or they may not potentially perform as well as they could academically. The Summer BRIDGE program compliments the New Student Orientation Program by providing new students with a valuable first experience on campus. The Summer BRIDGE Program introduces students to Gonzaga staff, faculty, and student leaders from a variety of levels. Students will build relationships with people who can provide great information on specific campus services, programs, and student life. Additionally, the Summer BRIDGE helps familiarize students with the Gonzaga campus and surrounding Spokane community. We firmly believe that the Summer BRIDGE can build a strong foundation and social network that will help them make the most of their Gonzaga experience.

Is there anything for me to do if I come with them?
Yes! You can help your student set up their room while they are busy in our workshops and seminars. Additionally, we have a short parent program with optional activities that will run concurrently with our Summer BRIDGE. During your sessions you will meet with key individuals on campus and be able to address some your questions or concerns.
