HEALTH UPDATE from the HEALTH CENTER - November 15, 2007
Due to the recent media attention generated by MRSA staph infections, I would like to provide you with information from the Center for Disease Control regarding this matter. Following the practices below will help curtail the spread of ALL bacterial infections, including MRSA.
- You can prevent bacterial infections, including MRSA, through infection prevention activities such as hand washing and caring for wounds by cleaning and covering them.
- Hand washing consists of scrubbing hands for 20 seconds on all sides and using warm water and soap.
- Hand sanitizers can be used between hand washing. Hand sanitizers need to be 60% or more of ethyl alcohol to be effective.
- Clean your environment with disinfectants to reduce bacteria and viruses.
- If you have signs of infection, (fever, pain, spreading redness, local swelling or heat, or drainage that contains pus or blood) visit the Health Center or a doctor immediately for diagnosis.
