2 a.m.
Sarah Flett
2 a.m.I lay
silently
as the rain falls on the empty street
below my window.
I lay
silently
Searching for answers.
It's two o' clock and all I can do
to keep my sanity is
listen
to the calm outside my window.
A calm that my mind
will never know.
My mind wanders
jumping from
abstract thought to
abstract though.
My thoughts feel like raindrops
plummeting from the sky,
Pounding into the wet earth.
I listen
to the raindrops
softly pounding on the pavement
and splash onto the sidewalks
and into the gutters.
A single car speeds by.
It's two am, they don't care.
They know
no cops will catch them.
My mind never halts
never falters.
I'm on a roller coaster
that never stops to pick up
another passenger.
I think about life
Love
Eternity.
About all the
unanswerable questions
that long to answer.
I pull the covers off
sigh
And know,
that tonight will be another
sleepless night.
