Who we are

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools, and become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting some of our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort.

• In the short run, our corps members go above and beyond to ensure that more students growing up today in our nation's lowest income communities have the educational opportunities they deserve.
• In the long run, we build a force of leaders with the insight and credibility that comes from having taught in a low-income community. They work from education and from every other sector to effect the fundamental changes needed to ensure that all children have an equal chance in life.

Currently, 3,500 corps members are teaching in over 1,000 schools in 22 regions across the country.
