Founded more than 130 years ago by William Booth, the Salvation Army is a religious and social service organization, a branch of the Christian Church dedicated to the battle against sin and despair. There is an integrated ministry to body, mind, and soul. The army seeks not only to improve the physical environment and provide for material needs, but also to reveal the power of Christ’s love. It’s social services programs assist children, the elderly families, and those battling addiction.
· Because Need Knows No Season, the Salvation army provides assistance to those in need 365 days a year.
· The Salvation Army assists more than 36 million individuals throughout the year in the United States—almost 6 million of those during the holiday season alone.
· The Salvation Army operates several domestic violence shelters nationwide, where abused women and children can get a fresh start in life, safely and confidentially.
· Salvation Army adult rehabilitation centers annually help more than 200,000 people from every walk of life fight substance abuse and return to their communities as participating, contributing members.
· When you shop at the Salvation Army thrift stores, you are helping individuals in our 160 adult rehabilitation centers nationwide through work therapy.
Volunteer Opportunities:
· Volunteer in the Salvation Army store—general merchandising (pricing, tagging, etc)
· Sort clothing in the warehouse.
· Hanging clothing in the warehouse
· Help sorting general items
· The Salvation Army will gladly meet the needs of a group who wishes to volunteer.
· Time Commitment: Anytime between 8 AM-6 PM Monday-Friday, and 9 AM-5 PM on Saturdays!
