The House of Charity
The House of Charity programs offer meals, clothing, mental health services, case management, and free medical care for transient, homeless, and very low-income people. A wintertime sleeping program is available for homeless men. Sacred Heart Medical Center Outreach Clinic has been part of the House of Charity since 1976. The new 24,000 square-foot House of Charity was dedicated October 5, 2000. This is a homeless shelter downtown that serves as a major hub for the homeless of Spokane.Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers needed to provide intake on front reception desk during the day. Volunteers would assist patrons with gear storage, health and comfort items, clothing needs, recording and issuing mail, answering phone, laundry, and walking the neighborhood.
· Drive the van to pick-up donated food from local grocers, restaurants and suppliers or clothing donations from individuals. (4 hours one morning per week.)
· Men volunteers to work 6-11 PM one evening a month (November 1-March 31) to hand out towels and pajamas to the homeless men who are spending the night.
· Time Commitments: Flexible, mornings and evenings are the best!
