Please rank the following programs to indicate your interest:
  • Zag Study Buddies (ZSB) is an after school tutoring program working in the Spokane community at four local elementary schools. The program connects Gonzaga student tutors with youth struggling with their academics to focus on school work two times per week from 3:00-4:15pm on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Student mentors meet the ZSB mentoring group at 2:45 each day of programming to travel to their school. At the schools the volunteers assist the students with homework assignments or other educational activities.
  • SMILE Self-Esteem Mentors Increasing Life’s Excitement (SMILE) is dedicated to improving kids’ self-esteem and building positive attitudes. Gonzaga mentors meet at the schools weekly for one hour from 4-5pm where they conduct activities that focus on self-esteem, culture, physical activity, art, and science. SMILE works with the Express after school program at ten local elementary schools with students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
  • GAME Gonzaga Athletes Mentoring for Excellence (GAME) is designed to teach teamwork and good sportsmanship to local area middle school students. It uses social interaction and physical activity to increase the self-esteem and resilience of local students. Mentors meet once per week on either Tuesday or Wednesday for two hours from 7-9pm at the schools and participate in P.E. style games including dodge ball, basketball, solleyball, and a variety of other fun and physical games.
  • Earthbound Earthbound runs after school activities that are fun and environmentally educational. It focuses on schools with the highest rates of free and reduced lunch to ensure that a lack of economic privilege will not lead to a lack of environmental awareness and appreciation. Mentors meet at the schools once per week from 3-5pm to conduct environmental awareness activities with local Spokane students.
  • Champion Mentors Champion Mentors will work one on one with students from Glover Middle School to create meaningful relationships and promote academic success. This program represents a new partnership between Gonzaga Mentoring Programs and Communities in Schools. Mentors in this program commit to one afternoon a week (Monday-Thursday) from 3:15-5:15pm for the semester. Mentors must provide their own transportation to Glover Middle School!
