Reality Camp
/
Reality Camp invites students to campus a week before Freshmen orientation to participate in a 5-day long community building immersion program. You and approximately 39 of your fellow students will engage in various community service projects around Spokane. You will live, serve and reflect on your experience together. This is a wonderful opportunity to create lasting friendships and develop strong bonds with the Gonzaga and Spokane communities!
When is Reality Camp?
Reality Camp runs Sunday through Thursday prior to Freshmen Orientation (August 19-23, 2012). Student arrive between 1 and 4 pm on the August 19th. Regular Freshman Orientation move in begins on the 24th. Transportation will be provided from the Spokane airport!
What we will be doing?
Reality Camp involved a myriad of activities within Spokane's urban and surrounding areas. We will be staying on Gonzaga's campus with the exception of 2 nights off campus. Past activities include helping at a homeless shelter, working in a community garden, and renovating a community center for individuals with disabilities. We will be participating in a morning and afternoon service project each day, allowing us to experience a variety of agencies and services Spokane has to offer. A highlight, students will have the opportunity to enjoy a homecooked meal prepared in the homes of Gonzaga staff and faculty! The Reality Camp experience focuses on the concept of simple living, focusing specifically on what we eat and in what we bring to the table. In this fashion, will be walking to most of our service locations, limiting the number of possessions in which we will carry.
Cost?
$200 which includes food, transportation, lodging and a T-shirt.
Registration will be open June 1st, 2012 and typically fills within hours!
