PROGRAM PURPOSE: To coordinate various service projects that benefits the local homeless

population while educating and promoting awareness about the myriad issues surrounding

homelessness in Spokane. Homeless Outreach at Gonzaga University includes partnerships

with community organizations such as the House of Charity, St. Margaret's Shelter, Union

Gospel Mission, The Women's and Children's Free Restaurant, Spokane Homeless Coalition,

and many others. This program works closely with the homeless population to coordinate

group activities that raise awareness and encourage participation among our campus

community. Volunteer opportunities may include: serving food, coordinating/participating

in a clothing or food drive, volunteering at a shelter, being a mentor for GU's Kid's

Club of St. Margaret's, helping plan and serve at our semiannual Food for Thought Dinner,

or assisting with Homelessness Awareness week. The Homeless Outreach program provides an

avenue for students to educate themselves with regard to poverty, social services, and

the responsibilities of society.
