What is Service Learning at Gonzaga?
Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. It is integrated into, and enhances, the academic curriculum or the educational components of the community service program in which the participants are enrolled.
Service-Learning at Gonzaga consists in four major components which are:
- Integration of service and course work to create a circular classroom.
- Faculty and community partners serve as co-teachers.
- Students are active participants in and out of the classroom.
- Reflection is used as a guide for class discussion.
