Assessments of self for personality type, values, and interests
These career assessments are available through the Gonzaga University Career & Professional Development office exclusively for members of the Gonzaga community (students, alumni, staff, faculty).
How do I take the assessments?
Step 1: To take one or both of the career assessments, register via email (there is no longer any cost associated with taking either assessment). Please include the following information in your email, use the subject line “Career Assessment Request”, and send to firstname.lastname@example.org:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Gonzaga ID Number
- Gonzaga Email Address
- Indicate current status: Student, Alumni, or other affiliation with Gonzaga
- Which assessment(s) you would like to complete (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, or both)
Step 2: Within one business day of registering, you will receive an email with instructions for taking the assessment(s), the link to the online assessment website with the assessment website code, and information on receiving your results during a required Career & Professional Development workshop.
Step 3: Once you have taken your assessment(s), Career & Professional Development will receive automatic notification and will email you within one business day to remind you to register for one of the required assessment workshops, during which you will receive your assessment results. You must register for a workshop through ZagTrax.net at least one business day before the workshop is held in order to attend.

What are they?
Career assessments can be used to help identify a few career fields that may align with a person’s interests. Assessment tools (they are not really 'tests', but they can help you find answers) such as the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) may be used to help you assess characteristics relevant to making satisfactory career decisions. They are not used to provide a definitive answer regarding what career path one should choose; rather, they can be used during the decision-making process to facilitate further self-reflection.
Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory assessment is one of the world’s most widely respected and frequently used career planning tools. The goal of this assessment is to give insight into a person's interests, so that they may have less difficulty in deciding on an appropriate career choice for themselves.
As a Gonzaga student or graduate, you may take the Strong Interest Inventory assessment by following the steps above.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
The MBTI is a personality inventory that helps identify four different aspects of one’s personality regarding how people perceive the world and make decisions. A person’s MBTI type can be compared to the vocational choices of others with the same type in order to help individuals discern fields in which they may have interest.
As a Gonzaga student or graduate, you may take the Myers-Briggs assessment by following the steps above.
Why take them?
There are many people who could benefit from career assessments. Here are just a few of the many reasons you might consider taking one or both of the assessments:
- You have not yet chosen a major and are not sure where to start
- You have some ideas about your interests but are not sure how this fits into major/career
- You have chosen a major but are wondering if another major might be a better fit
- You are wondering if graduate school is right for you
- You don’t know how to translate your major into a career after graduation
The particular reasons why you are seeking career assessments are many. What is most important is your desire to learn more about yourself and how you make decisions and your willingness to pursue career exploration.
