The campus of Gonzaga University is generally within the area bounded by the Spokane River and Centennial Trail on the south, Hamilton St. on the east, Sharp Ave. on the north (and Sinto between Cincinnati and Addison streets), and Ruby St. on the west. Privately-owned, non-University property is also included in this area. Likewise, University property extends in some places beyond the boundary area described. Most streets and alleys within the campus area are controlled by the city of Spokane. Both Campus Public Safety and Security and the Spokane Police department patrol the campus and surrounding area. From time to time local police are contracted by the University to provide proactive patrol of the campus and neighborhood.
The Gonzaga campus is located in the Logan neighborhood, an historic, tight-knit urban residential area. The University is within walking distance of a number of city parks, restaurants and retail stores. The 108-acre campus is open, allowing access for neighborhood foot traffic, particularly along the Centennial Trail. Campus buildings are either checked or secured by CPS&S after business hours each day. Access to facilities after business hours is provided by CPS&S and requires authorization from the party responsible for the building and the presentation of photo identification. Residential facilities are locked 24 hours a day. Access by non-residents is limited to guests of a resident or other University-approved visitors.
The University locksmith maintains locking equipment for all University facilities. Duplication of any University key by anyone other than the University locksmith is prohibited. The Plant Services department issues keys to community members based on appropriate authorization.
The Plant Services department also coordinates all work/repair orders involving University buildings and grounds. Any community member can place a work order or advise of a maintenance concern by calling the Customer Service desk at ext. 5656. Requests involving safety issues or security concerns are given top priority.
The University maintains a number of courtesy phones throughout the campus. These phones are programmed to call University extensions, including CPS&S and the switchboard. They will also call off-campus to summon emergency providers if necessary.
Escorts & Safe Ride
Escorts are available at all times on campus through Campus Public Safety and Security. During the evening hours, recognized student organizations, as well as CPS&S, provide escort services. A "Safe Ride" program, operated in conjunction with a local taxi company, is also available. More information on this program is available by calling ext.4069.
