The Junior League's Foster Santa Breakfast is just a few short weeks away and we are looking for volunteers!  This will be a great start to the morning - give back to the community, head to lunch and then watch the Zags beat Wake Forest! We will be serving breakfast to 405 foster kids with overall attendance of 594 - to date!  The kids will get their picture taken with Santa, spend time with Spike, Otto and Miss Spokane among other community VIPs!  We will also be raffling off themed Christmas trees with presents galore, Nintendo Wiis, digital cameras, bikes and a lot more (sorry, all raffle items are for the kids!).Let me know if you are interested in helping - the more the merrier so please pass this along.  Contact me with any questions.

Riverview Retirement Community is in need of a student or a group of students to come down to their facilities and offer computer assistance to the residents at their community.  Usually this means fairly simple tasks, such as helping with email accounts, etc.  They are looking for a regular commitment during the week, up to 5 hours each week but will definitely be flexible and take less.

St. Joseph's, which is only 0.5 miles from the Gonzaga campus, is looking for volunteers to help rake up its three acres of land.  We hope to make a work party that would work for a few hours on a given weekend. Date/time are flexible; it would be ideal for a club looking to fulfill its community service hour requirement!   Please contact the Facility Coordinator (Vince) at 509-953-0807 to make arrangements.

We already have your local blood center prepared to do the drive, but a student or student organization would to sponsor it on campus. It would take place on March 31^st, or close to it.  For now, we just need to identify the student or student organization.  Then as the date comes closer, the student organizer would help promote the drive in collaboration with the blood center. Last year we had 42 universities participate, and we would like to include your campus during our 2010 national campaign.  The students receive great experiential education and the Top 10 campuses receive a plaque, and the winner receives a great big Trophy as well as a big pizza party. But most importantly, your students obtain the experience and ability to save lives.  Come March 31^st, thousands of college students will be donating blood in unison during our national event. It truly is very exciting.  Last year's launch event, was already one of the largest national campaigns ever for the American Red Cross and America's Blood Centers. The Tree of Sharing started in 1982 when the Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ wanted to do an outreach program.  At its inception, there was only one tree with eight agencies involved and 650 gift requests.  Today, with KREM TV2 joining in the program, Asuris Northwest Health support and many other individual, agency and church member support the program has grown to three malls and 60 agencies and almost 6,000 gifts.

Nearly 600 volunteer hours are needed to staff the trees and we are asking for your help.From Friday November 20^th to Sunday December 13^th volunteers are needed in shifts to assist at the trees at the Northtown Mall, River Park Square and Spokane Valley Mall.  Also help is needed in the warehouse on Monday and Tuesday December 14^th and 15^th where the gifts are sorted.

Title: Game Research Volunteer

The Game Research Volunteer assists in researching games for use in the Fabulous Facilitator Game Database. Research games for use by patrons of the Empowering, Inc. Library. Gather appropriate experiential props for games using a series of appropriate avenues. Create instructions for game use. Assist in making games available in the Fabulous Facilitator Game Database.

Title: Kit Development Volunteer

The Kit Development Volunteer assists in the development and maintenance of game kits for use by therapists working with children and families. Collaborate with agency staff to determine Kit ideas for the Empowering, Inc. Library. Collect kit making materials through several appropriate avenues. Create instruction documents for kit use. Second Harvest Inland Northwest (located 1234 E. Front Avenue) needs 15-30 volunteers every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9AM till Noon and 1PM till 4PM to assist with repacking bulk food items into consumer sized packages and boxing them in preparation for delivery to the hungry in our community.

Due to safety guidelines, no open toed shoes are allowed in the warehouse. Please wear a light jacket as the warehouse can be cool. Sister Irene Knopes is looking for 3-4 volunteers to help with childcare at St. Joseph's 10:30-12:00 and 12:15-1:45 masses.  The 10:30-12:00 time is with 2 or 3 children approx 3 years of age while mother teaches. The 12:15 time slot is with many children whose parents attend a Spanish-speaking Mass. Some volunteers may want to one or the other, or both.

Mentoring Children of Promise (http://mcp.esd101.net//) provides mentors for youth ages 4-18 who are effected by parental incarceration. Mentoring Children of Promise connects volunteer mentors with eligible youth. Mentoring Children of Promise strives to break the cycles of inter- generational incarceration through safe, positive mentoring relationships.

We need about 30 volunteers to serve 6 hours per month for one year. Hours are flexible.  Volunteer needs to pass criminal background check and be able to commit to 6 hours per month for one year.

INHS (www.inhs.org) provides services to several local health care organizations, one of which is St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute. SLRI (www.stlukesrehab.org) provides services to individuals and their families in need of medical rehabilitation.

At INHS, we need at least 50 volunteers to assist with data entry and preparing materials for community health education classes. At St. Luke's, volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities - staff the welcome desk, patient transport, delivery of patient mail / magazines, helping in the patient dining room, general clerical work, etc.

Volunteers are needed at INHS M-F (1:00-5:00) Volunteers are needed at SLRI 7 days a week anytime between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (depending on position).   We are very flexible with student's schedules and grateful for any amount of time they can commit. A typical schedule might be 2-4 hours per day, once or twice per week. I am happy to meet with your representative on campus and discuss in further detail.

The Spokane Law Enforcement Museum (www.evooa.org/SPLEM) exists to collect, preserve, and display artifacts of law enforcement history in the Spokane Region and teach through education a respect for the judicial system of our country by exhibiting the history of law enforcement since its beginnings here.

We need volunteers to assist in the computerized inventory of the museum and to help with displays and guided tours, to act as hosts, and answer telephones and questions. To work as a liaison with the Historic Monuments Committe and the Spokane History Book Committee in doing original research at the MAC Museum and the Northwest Room. Do interviews and oral histories, computer work with typing, scanning and formatting. Do tours of the Hallways of History downtown at the Public Safety Building and assist with special functions and dedications of the historical monuments.

In addition, we need volunteers to assist with genealogical research to help locate family members of those being honored by monuments and sidelights in history articles.

Youth 'N Action ( www.youthnaction.org ) exists to empower at-risk youth as advocates for their education, treatment, mental wellness, and overall health and happiness.

We need 6 volunteers to commit to participating once-a-month at meetings; must pass a Washington criminal background check. The commitment is 1-2 times a month and about 2-4 hours per day.

Youth 'N Action volunteers are a vital part of Youth 'N Action and provide support and mentorship to our youth. Volunteers help lead activities and discussions, help set up and tear down meetings, and call to check in on our youth members.

Every August, BBBS hosts a "Back To School Blitz"-- where we provide up to 75 of your youth a gift card to Fred Meyer to shop for school clothes. With an assigned chaperone, they shop for school clothes for one hour, usually 7-8am . This year, the event will be held on Saturday, August 15th at the 3rd & Freya Fred Meyer. We are in need of 10-15 student/adult volunteers to pair up with some of these youth. It will be very exciting and worthwhile!

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry

In our youth ministry we seek to: yield our lives to Christ as an act of worship, open our hearts and minds to be molded by God, use our gifts to serve God and others, tell others about Christ's love and grace, hang together and encourage each other. We are also considering starting a new after school youth drop in center. Through the center we would seek to share God's love with the Shadle community by serving youth through tutoring, building relationships, and providing a fun, safe hang out place.

The main need for volunteers is for the new drop in center. It may start in August or September depending on the volunteer support available. Weekly youth group meetings are Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. Small groups and special events are held at various times. Drop in center hours are not set.

The more volunteers that are available the greater the potential for this ministry to grow and this drop in center to begin.

St. Anne's is a childcare facility serving a diverse socioeconomic group in order to give all children exposure to quality early childhood education. Spokane International Film Festival

We are a Nonprofit art related organization to bring the best and newest films, shorts and documentaries from around the world - to Spokane. We currently need volunteers to help with marketing and outreach, build Festival program, mailings, assist at film showings, etc. Volunteers will receive some free film tickets. For the adults we have quilting classes and an exercise class twice per week. Meals on Wheels now has a location at our site.
